Prices of rice went up in Naogaon. In the district's wholesale markets, per 50-kilogram sack of different rice varieties is being sold at Tk 100 to Tk 150 higher than usual price.

In the retail markets, price of Kataribhog rose to Tk 46 from Tk 44, Jirashail to Tk 48 from Tk 45, BRRI Dhan-28 to Tk 42-43 from Tk 38-40 and Swarna to Tk 42 from Tk 40.

General Secretary of Naogaon Rice Mill Association Farhad Hossain said the rice price has risen due to price hike of paddy recently.

Apart from this, the rice production had fallen drastically in the district as the mill workers went on vacation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, resulting in spike in rice prices.

District Food Controller GM Faruk Hossain Patwary said the food department monitors the market round the year in order to keep the rice prices at reasonable level.

"If the current prices are not reasonable, we will take necessary measures in this regard", he added.
