Ranga promises to build modern bus terminal in Rangpur

State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga has said the Rangpur Central Bus Terminal is being reconstructed with all modern facilities.

The project is estimated to be built at a cost of Tk 290 million.

“The development of Rangpur continues and the trend will persist in the future,” chief guest Ranga said while inaugurating reconstruction works of the bus terminal at a function in Rangpur on Wednesday.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa was seen to preside over the function.

Ranga said reconstruction works of the bus terminal began with financial assistance of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Government of Bangladesh under supervision of the Local Government and Engineering Department.

Once the reconstruction works complete, Rangpur will experience a new bus terminal with all modern facilities, said the state minister.

The reconstructed two-storey building of Rangpur Central Bus Terminal would have 29,645 square feet area.

The facility will comprise a modern workshop, refreshment rooms for drivers and conductors, parking area, 14 ticket counters, three ATM booths, women’s prayer room, two day-care centres, six food shops, one drug store, public toilets, luggage area and sitting arrangements for passengers on the ground floor of the terminal’s main building, according to BSS.

Plans on the second floor involve a restaurant, children’s playing room, shops, offices of the traffic department, control room, technical department and administrative division, meeting room, public toilets, VIP lounge and few other rooms, said the Rangpur mayor.

Joint General Secretary of the District Motor Owners’ Association Azizul Islam Raju, City Councillors Tauhidul Islam, Mizanur Rahman Mizu, and Harunur Rashid Harun were also present at the programme among others.
