Police detain 31 in Dinajpur

Law enforcers, in special drives arrested 31 people including nine drug traders and five activists of Jamaat-E-Islami from different areas of Dinajpur district in last 12-hour ending at 8:00 am on Tuesday morning.

Law enforcers also seized 350 bottles of phensidyl syrup and 119 pieces of yaba tablets during the drives.

Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district on different charges.

Dinajpur Sadar police arrested five people including two drug traders along with 119 pieces of yaba tablets, Birganj Thana police arrested four including three activists of Jamaat-E-Islami, Kaharole Thana police arrested one person, Biral police arrested one person, Ghoraghat Thana police arrested two, Chirirbandar Thana police arrested four suspects including two activists of Jamaat-E-Islami, Khansama Thana police arrested two, Phulbari Thana police arrested two, Nawabganj Thana police arrested one person and Hakimpur Thana police arrested two people.

Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrestees.

Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive detained seven drug traders along with 350 bottles of phensidyl syrup at around 6:00 am from Hili Railway Station in Hakimpur upazila of the district, BSS reported.

The detainees were then handed over to the Hakimpur Thana police, BGB said.

The suspects were sent to jail.
