Panchagarh to cultivate potatoes on 5000 hectares of land

Around 5,000 hectares of land have been brought under potato cultivation in the current Rabi season in Panchagarh district.

The farmers are seen busy over nurturing their potato fields. They started harvesting the early variety of potato, and have been selling their produce at fair prices in the local markets.

Per 80-kg potato bag are being sold at Tk 1800 to 2000 in the markets, according to traders.

Traders gather in the region from different districts to purchase the vegetable every year. Potatoes are then distributed throughout the country from here including Dhaka, reports BSS.

According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Panchagarh, the farmers are attaining good profit from selling potatoes and favourable weather conditions have also contributed to the cultivation.

The DAE has given necessary instructions for cultivation to the farmers over protecting their crop from late blight disease.
