N’ganj gunfight kills ‘drug-traders’

An alleged drug-trader was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Galachipa in Sadar upazila of Narayanganj district on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Shaheen alias Banduk Shaheen, a suspected drug-peddler wanted in several cases, reports UNB.

Tipped off that a group of criminals gathered in the area, a DB team conducted a drive there around 3:10 am, said Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Narayanganj DB police.

Shaheen's associates then reportedly hurled bombs and opened fire on police, forcing the law enforcers to fire back, the OC said.

At one stage, Shaheen was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.

Police recovered one pistol and four bullets from the spot.

Two policemen, including the OC, were injured in the bomb attack during the gunfight.
