Newborn dies due to ‘negligence’ at Mymensing clinic

A newborn died due to reported negligence at a private clinic in Krishtapur of Mymensingh on Monday.

Harun-or-Rashid, a resident of Kolyanpur village in Sadar Upazila, said his wife Jannat Begum was admitted to Porosh Private Clinic around 11:30pm on Sunday after she had gone into labour.

"The doctors performed a C-section without running any tests and gave us the baby's body after half an hour," he said. "There were several injury marks on the child's body."

The clinic's director Rezaul Karim Murad claimed that the baby died in the womb two days ago. "There was no negligence on our part," he said.

Police detained hospital owners Murad, Arifur Rahman and Mehedi Hasan after the family lodged a complaint, said Monsurul Alam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, reports UNB.

Mymensingh Civil Surgeon Dr AKM Abdur Rouf said the private clinic did not have registration. "We will investigate whether there was any negligence on the clinic's part and take actions accordingly," he said.
