The farmers of Netrokona share gratification over bumper jute production in the current season. In all ten upazilas of the district, farmers managed to attain fair prices for the crop.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials in Netrokona said the farmers cultivated jute on 4,817 hectares of land in ten upazilas of the district this year due to favourable climate conditions.

Government help was also available as they launched different farmers’ friendly programmes.

34,555 bales of jute were produced in the district this year, DAE sources said.

Many farmers had shown their keen interest for cultivating jute on their farm lands as the government ensured proper supply of fertiliser, improved quality seeds and insecticides at fair prices at the doorsteps of the jute growers boosting production, deputy director of DAE M Habibur Rahman said.

In addition, the state-run commercial banks including Bangladesh Krishi Bank disbursed bank loans among the jute growers of the district.

The crop specialists and grass-root level officers of DAE also rendered field-level service to let the jute growers know about the modern methods of jute cultivation.

Production costs came down and farmers reportedly collected improved quality of jute fibres, BSS reported.

Many jute growers have expressed their feelings of happiness and gratitude towards the government for the bumper production.
