BOGURA, Apr 28: Maize cultivation target has exceeded in the district this season.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), over 500 hectares of land have been come under the production of the cereal crop in the district.

The prevailing weather is quite favourable for the farming, said farmer Zahangir Hossain of Chupinagar village under Shajahanpur upazila.

The farmers said harvest will start from the next month.

Generally farmers sow maize seeds after harvesting T-Aman rice in the month of January to February.

"The crop can be harvested around 140 to 150 days of its cultivation if weather remains favourable," said farmer Tofazzol Hossain of Sherpur upazila.

The grower said maize is the most popular item among the Rabi crops for its easy production process and low cost.

It is considered as a cash crop among the farmers, he further said.

More than 100 maunds of maize may be achieved from a hectare of land if farmers follow the right method in growing the item, DAE officials added.
