Palli Bidyut Samity (rural electrification association) has brought Shalikha upazila completely under its network in Magura.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared it recently, said Binoy Kumar Roy, Deputy General Manager at Magura Palli Biddut Shamity.

Jafar Ali, a rice mill owner of Harishpur village, said, "I set up a rice mill in the village one year ago, but could not start its operation in the absence of a power connection.”

"After getting the power connection on Sunday last, I was able to bring my mill into operation for the first time,” he said, adding, “Earlier, people of the village had to go 2.0 km far away to process paddy.”

Farmer Taleb Hossein of Baulia village said he had to use a diesel-run engine pump to irrigate water in the paddy field. “Now I am using a power-run pump.”

He further said he is happy as his irrigation cost may be reduced this season.

Director of Magura Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rasul Meer said cent per cent electrification will contribute to improving business and socio-economic conditions in the upazila.

Meanwhile, BSS adds: In Naogaon, about 127 families of two villages under Mahadevpur upazila in the district have been brought under rural electrification network by PDB and Palli Bidyut Samity.

Salim Uddin Tarafder, MP, inaugurated the electrification programme as the chief guest at a simple function at Malahar-Bidyanagar village of the upazila on Monday afternoon.
