MAGURA, Mar 07: Farmers of the district are expecting a bumper production of wheat this season as the harvest will start within a couple of weeks.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said about 4,850 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of wheat this year with a production target of 14,550 tonnes.

Ikbal Hossein of Akshi village under Magura Sadar said he is growing wheat on two bighas of land and expecting some 20 maunds of production.

Another farmer Golam Nobi of Nalidanga village said maize cultivation is gaining popularity among the cultivators in the area for high market demand.

Moreover, repeated bumper yield encouraged the grassroots growers to expand the crop production.

DAE official Shohrab Hossein said, "We expect a bumper output if the weather condition remains favourable until harvest is completed."
