Lightning strikes leave four dead in Satkhira

Four people have died and eight others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Shyamnagar and Sadar upazilas of Satkhira on Monday.

Syed Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, said Jotsna Mandal, 35, wife of Srikanto Das and Zinnatunnesa, 32, wife of Mujid Molla of Gumontoli village in Shyamnagar upazila were killed and six others injured when a thunderbolt struck them as they were working at a fish enclosure in the afternoon.

In another incident, Saju Hossain, son of Abdus Salam of Boikari village was killed and two others were injured when a thunderbolt hit them while they were returning home from a fish farm, said Asaduzzaman, a UP chairman, reports UNB.

Meanwhile, Maruf Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, siad Abul Khayer of Tegharia village in Bhomra area died on the spot after the thunderbolt struck him amid rain.
