Nestled in the slopes of Meghalaya hills in the Indian border of Kalmakanda upazila of Netrokona, Langura is brim-full with tourism potential.

The small village could be a perfect destination for the nature-lovers because it is guarded by lusty green forests and surrounded by a small river called Ganeswari. Climbing up one of the hillocks, one can discover an island-like forest in front of their eyes. And from there, mountain ranges of India's Meghalaya could be seen one behind another. Not only natural beauty, this place bears some relics of the 1971 liberation war.

This place can become a major tourist attraction for many people, particularly for those who love to enjoy nature's tranquility, said several tourists.

Moni, who came from Netrokona town, said, "It is an enchanting place for nature-lovers."

However, it can draw tourists in numbers if they are given more facilities, she added.

Another tourist Shahjahan said, "What I loved most is the presence of Ganeshwari river in the midst of greenery."

"The colourful life and culture of indigenous people including Garo, Hajong, Hadi, and Koch have made us love this place more," he added.

One can discover the Meghalaya hills as soon as one reaches Nazirpur where the Monument of Liberation War is located. In 1971, a total of seven freedom fighters lied down their lives here in a fierce battle against the Pakistani army.

"A 100-year-old temple could also be seen on the way from Nazirpur to Langura," said Rahim Uddin, a local.

Langura has a number of hillocks. Of them, Momin's Tila is one of the most remarkable hillocks. Besides this, Chairman's Tila, Gazi's Tila are also noteworthy, he added.

Contacted, Netrokona Deputy Commissioner, Kazi Md. Abdur Rahman, said to the FE, "To make Langura more tourist-friendly, a discussion between the officials of Bangladesh Tourism Board and the Ministry of Tourism has already been held."

In that meeting, it has been agreed that tourists' accommodation, transportation and security will be improved soon, he added.
