A good number of peasants of the district are growing Khorali chilli this season as they made a handsome profit last year.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said the department has taken elaborate steps to make the cultivation programme a success.

Khorali chilli farmer are expecting to sell the produce at Tk 100 to Tk 120 per kg.

Farmers use both chemical and organic fertilisers on the chilli land. The DAE provided quality seeds among the growers.

"I am growing Khorali chilli on some four decimals of land. It is a profitable venture and ensures profit", said farmer Shahadat Hossain of Madipukur village under Akkelpur upazila.

DAE officials said they expect to get some 120 tonnes of Khorali chilli production this season.
