Joypurhat farmers start harvesting BRRI-62, BINA-7 rice varieties

JOYPURHAT, Oct 07: Paddy farmers of the district are happy over the satisfactory yield of BRRI-62 and BINA-7 this season.

High land is suitable for farming the paddy varieties. Growers are passing busy time to harvest their produce and it will continue till for 15 days.

The peasants are getting around 14 to 15 maunds of yield from a bigha of land this season, said farmer Anarul Islam of Khetlal upazila.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials said BRRI-62 and BINA-7 are high-yielding. The department provided all support to farmers to make the farming programme a success.

In a recent visit in Khetlal, Kalai, Panchbibi, Akkelpur and Sadar upazilas of the district this correspondent paddy harvest is going on in full swing.

Farmers are expecting to make a good profit from the produce.

BRRI-62 and BINA-7 paddy varieties are short-duration. Farmers can harvest produce after 100 to 110 days of transplanting sapling.

Farming of the two paddy varieties is profitable. Profit of Tk 20,000 to Tk 22,000 can be made from the sale of the crop produced in a bigha of land.

Deputy Director of DAE Sudhendra Nath Roy said, "We encourage the grassroots farmers to grow BRRI-62 and BINA-7 for more profit. Moreover, application of different modern methods helps boost the production."
