Impressive chilli output makes Magura farmers happy

MAGURA, Aug 06: Bumper production and high market price have brought smile to the faces of chilli growers in the district.

Farmers' sources said green chilli harvest going on in full swing. Newly-harvest chilli has already appeared in the market and it is selling at Tk 80 per kg.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Magura, sources said 695 hectares of land were brought under the production of the spice crop with the production target of 1,350 tonnes.

Farmer Frukan Shekh of Nalidanga village under Magura Sadar said, "I cultivated chilli on two bighas of land this season. My harvest is completed. I have already earned Tk 60,000 and am expecting Tk 40,000 more."

Another farmer, Borhanuddin, of Kalundi village under Sreepur upazila, said he cultivated chilli on three bighas of land this year.

"I have achieved 60 maunds of chilli and expecting to make a profit of Tk 0.5 million", he added.

Magura DAE official Shohrab Hossein said chilli growers achieved a bumper production this season. They are also happy over the price.
