'Govt working to boost fish production'

State minister for fisheries and livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru said on Saturday said the present government has taken many innovative programmes including setting up fish sanctuaries for boosting fish production in the country.

“We are digging and re-excavating waters bodies, rivers, canals and ponds to increase fish cultivation in the country,” he told a function of releasing fish -fries into the Bhaual beel at village Kanchanpur under Netrakona sader upazila in the district.

Chaired by chairman of Netrakona sader upazila Tapsiruddin Ahmed, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Habiba Rahman Khan Shafali MP, vice chairman of Netrakona sader upazila parishad Tuhin Akter, district fisheries officer Dilip Kumar Shaha, general secretary of Netrakona press club Shamolendu Paul and general secretary of district red crescent society Gazi Muzammel Hussain Tuku.

The state minister formally released four hundreds kilograms of fish-fries of different verities of native fishes including Rui and Katla into the Bhaual beel.

In this context, he said the country has been identified as the

fourth fish producing state in the world due to the massive innovative programs taken by the present government in the past 10 years, reports BSS.
