Five-km tailback on Dhaka-Chittagong highway

Hundreds of passengers were stuck in a five-km tailback stretched from Daudkandi toll plaza to Shaheednagar in Cumilla on Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

The tailback ensued on Friday and was persisting till filing of the report on Saturday noon, reports UNB.

Several hundred vehicles were stranded on both sides of the busy highway.

The vehicles were moving slowly on the highway as an aftermath of the transport strike which led to increased number of cargoes leaving Chattogram port, said Abul Kalam Azad, Daudkandi Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge.

He further blamed the gridlock originated on Meghna Bridge in Munshiganj as another cause for the tailback on the highway.

Highway police are trying to ease the vehicular movement, he added.
