Five die as two buses collide head-on in Rangpur

At least five people were killed and 50 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses at Seo Bazar in Rangpur city on Sunday.

The identities of deceased could not be known yet, reports UNB.

The accident took place around 12:30pm when a bus of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) collided head-on with another bus, leaving four people dead on the spot, said Shariful Islam, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (North) of Rangpur Police.

Among the injured, one was declared dead at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH), he added.

The BRTC bus was heading towards Panchagarh from Bogura while the other bus was going from Dinajpur to Rangpur, said the DB official.

A total of 22 injured victims are now undergoing treatment at RMCH and the rest have been released after giving treatment there, he said.

Of them, the condition of some 15/16 victims were stated to be critical, he added.
