A fire has burnt down at least 14 shanties at a Rohingya refugee camp in Teknaf.

The locals tamed the fire 20 minutes after it broke out at the Chakmarkul Rohingya camp in Whoaikong Union at around 5:00am on Wednesday.

No deaths or injuries were reported, bdnews24 reported citing Teknaf Police Station chief Ranajit Kumar Barua.

“The fire broke out from a cooking stove at one of the shanties in the camp. Locals had brought the fire under control before the firemen arrived,” the police official said citing locals.

“At least 14 shanties made of polythene sheets, bamboo and wood housing 28 families turned into ashes by the time the fire was tamed,” said Ranajit.
