Early cultivated beans start appearing in local markets

Beans cultivated in early season has started appearing in the local markets of the district.

 

Local source said over 4,000 farmers of Santhia, Bera, Chatmohor, Atghoria, Ishwardi and Sujanagar upazilas cultivated the early variety of bean with a view to get a good market price.

 

Sources said the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) supplied seeds among the farmers at a low rate to make popular bean variety in the area. Farmers can harvest the item within 45 to 60 days from its plantation period.

 

On a recent visit, this correspondent found peasants of over 140 villages were rearing their fields of bean. A good number of growers said early bean cultivation is profitable due to its high market demand.

 

"I have taken some 34 decimal of land under early the cultivation of the bean variety this current season spending Tk 5600. I have already harvested some 40 kgs of the vegetable and sold at Tk 3800 in the market," said farmer Abu Taleb Joyarder under Iswardi upazila.

 

Deputy Director of DAE Bibhuti Bushan said the bean variety is getting popular in the district. A good number of growers have been improving their financial condition by cultivation of the vegetable every season.
