DSCC, DNCC remove most wastes of sacrificial animals

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Panel Mayor Jamal Mostafa Thursday said 100 per cent wastes of sacrificial animals on the holy Eid-ul-Azha were removed within 24 hours in the city corporation area as per the prior announcement.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon said 90 per cent wastes of sacrificial animals were removed in 24 hours in the city corporation area till 2pm Thursday.

“We have successfully removed the wastes of sacrificial animals within 24 hours with the cooperation of city dwellers,” Mostafa told a press conference at DNCC Nagar Bhaban Thursday afternoon.

He said this year the city dwellers have made much enthusiastic response in slaughtering their sacrificial animals in the DNCC designated spots than the previous years.

He said around 8,500 tonnes of wastes have been removed from the DNCC areas as around 9,500 cleaners have worked to keep the city clean within 24 hours.

Earlier, both DNCC and DSCC started removing of animal waste at 2pm on Wednesday as per prior announcement.

Sayeed Khokon said “We made a pledge to clean the city by removing wastes of sacrificial
animals . . . As per our commitment we have removed around 90 per cent of wastes,” he told a press conference at Nagar Bhaban.

The mayor said the cleaning operation is still going on as Muslim devotees would slaughter animals till Friday, as Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated for three days every year.

He said they estimated that sacrificing of animals in DSCC would produce 20,000 tonnes of wastes. “We have already removed 15,000 tonnes of wastes so far,” the mayor added.

Mayor Sayeed Khokon expressed his optimism that they will be successful in removing 20,000 tonnes of waste to keep the city clean and check environmental pollution.-BSS
