Cultivators eye good wheat yield in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Jan 2: Farmers of Joypurhat district desire an eye catching wheat production in his season due to favourable weather condition and timely supply of necessary-agri-inpute.

According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office source farmer have brought over 2285 hectares of land under  Bari 25, Bari-26, Bari-27, Bari-28,Bari-29 and Bari-30 variety wheat cultivation in this season aiming bumper production in all five upazilas of the district.

In a recent visit the correspondent found the mild trees growing well elsewhere the district as the farmers provide necessary goods. The farmers of the region are passing busy time to take care defying bone chilling cold from the very early in the morning to late at afternoon.

"I have brought around two bighas of land under wheat cultivation in this season to get 23 maunds of crops if the weather condition remains favourable till February," said farmer Prodit Kumar Mohonta, 55, at Borotata village under sadar upazila of the district.

The authority concern demand that to cultivate a bigha of land the farmers need to spend Tk 6000 to 7000 but they can make over Tk 16,000 to 20,000 as profit. The wheat seed was supplied among the eager peasant to make the programme a grand success from the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC).

The peasants of the district have sowed the seed last November after harvesting the T-Aman paddy and they will harvest the crops after 120 days of its plantation, said authority concern. The farmers have been provided measure fartiliser to grow more crops.

Deputy Director (DD) of Joypurhat district Sudhindranath Ray said the farmers of the region have shown more interest to bring some new hectares of land under the crops cultivation in this season as they made a good profit last year.
