BOGURA, Mar 23: Commercial aloe vera farming is expanding fast across the district due to high market price.
Many growers in the area have attained financial solvency from the plants as it easy to cultivate and requires less expenditure.
They said the plants grow fast. The cultivation of aloe vera is profitable than other short-duration crops.
"I have cultivated alo vera this season on 45 decimals of land," said farmer Zabed Ali Sarkar of Maria village under Shajahanpur upazila.
He said, "I have already made a profit of Tk 70,000 and expecting to earn Tk 50,000 more this season."
A farmer can make Tk 0.1 million profit easily spending Tk 20,000 to Tk 25,000 by growing the item on a bigha of land, the farmer said, adding, it requires hardly any irrigation and pesticide."
They only water five to six times. Pesticide use is also less.
Each leaf is sold at Tk 5.0 to Tk 8.0 in the retail market.
Traders from other neighbouring districts frequently visit the fields and purchase the item direct from the growers.
Upazila agriculture officer of Shajahanpur Nur-E-Alam said, "We suggest the farmers to grow the item to make more profit."
