Coast Guard members seize one tonne of jatka in Chandpur

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard seized one tonne of 'jatka' during a drive on Monday from Chandpur's  Horina, Loggimara Char and other adjacent areas in the Meghna River.

They also seized 40,000 metres of current net left behind by fishermen, reports UNB.

After seizure, law enforcers distributed one tonne of 'jatka' among the orphans, poor and destitute.

They also burned the nets on the river bank at the order of the Additional District Magistrate Abdullah Al Mahmud Jaman.

Fishermen had caught the jatka defying a government ban on fishing during the March-April period to protect the fish.
