Chemical-free vegetable farming gains pace in Narsingdi

The cultivation of Chemical and pesticide free vegetables has gained an immense popularity among the farmers across the Narsingdi district.

Owing to the high demand in the market and lucrative price, a large number of growers are getting more involved in farming the vegetables using organic methods and fertilisers.

Sources from the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said they have taken various necessary steps to educate the farmers about the harmful effects of using pesticides and chemical fertilisers in vegetables fields.

Also, the DAE has been providing trainings to the growers and encouraging them to use organic fertilisers like composts, vermin composts and green manure in their lands.

Narsingdi is a leading vegetables producing region of the country which supplies 30 to 40 per cent of its production to the capital city and other districts, says a BSS report.

DAE officials said application of organic fertilisers can increase crop production.

Salina Jahan of Shoikarchar village under Shibpur upazila has achieved tremendous success in producing various chemical and pesticide free vegetables by using homemade vermin composts.

Another farmer Lovely Akther of Chinispur village also has attained solvency by producing organic vegetables.

Being inspired by their success, many more growers in the region are gradually getting engaged in farming poison free vegetables.
