Bogura farmers expect bumper off-season brinjal production

BOGURA, July 15: Farmers of Bogura district are expecting to produce bumper off-seasonal brinjal this season.

Due to favourable weather condition and timely supply of necessary agri-input the farmer's expectation is being strong gradually across the area. They made the cultivation a grand success previous year with assistance of authority concern.

The farmers of the region have taken some 560 hectares of land under off-seasonal brinjal cultivation in Adamdghi, Dupchanchia, Kahaloo, Shibganj, Sherpur, Sonatola, Sariajandi, Dhunot, Gabtolty, Nandigram, Shajahanpur and sadar upazilas of the district this season.

They were cultivated over 500 hectares of land previous year and made a good profit as the market price was satisfactory.

"I have taken some 23 decimal of land under off-seasonal brinjal cultivation this season spending Tk 4,000 to pay seed, fertiliser, and pesticide and labour cost," said farmer Amzad Hossain, 56, under Adamdighi upazila of the distinct.

"I am expecting to harvest the vegetable in large scale next month if the weather condition remains favourable at all." he added.

The farmers are also expecting to produce over 40 maunds of fresh crops from each bigha of land this season. They are also optimistic to make around Tk 50 thousand as profit paying all sort of production cost.

Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chadra Sarker said he orders to the official to monitor the root level farmers so that they can grow the vegetable abundantly across the district. The farmer is mostly delighted as their crops are growing well across the region, he added.
