BGB detains youth with five gold bars along Benapole border

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a young man along with five gold bars worth Tk 2.15 million from Benapole Port Police Station on Friday.

The arrestee was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 27, son of Noor-Islam, hailing from Putkhali village under the same police station, according to a BGB press release, UNB reported.

Acting on a tip-off, a 49-BGB patrol team arrested Shafiqul from Barpotabazar area at around 9:15 am while he was trying to smuggle the gold bars weighing around 500 grams to India, the release added.
