BOGURA, Apr 18:  A good number Boro paddy growers of the district are worried due to massive attack of bacterial leaf blast disease.

Unfavourable weather is the main reason of the disease, said deputy director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Protul Chandra Sarker.

He urges the affected farmers to apply potash fertiliser along with urea on the paddy pants.

He said farmer should keep the cropland dry to get rid of the problem. If the farmers take precautionary care, the affected farm will be five soon.

"I have cultivated Boro on four bighas of land this season, but half of my prospective cropland has been affected with the bacterial leaf blast disease," said farmer Hamidur Rahman of Gabtoly upazila.

In a recent visit in Gabtoly, Sonatola, Sherpur, Nandigram and Sajahanpur areas this correspondent found that fields of hybrid paddy varieties have been affected more than the indigenous ones.

It will affect the total production of the district if farmers won't be able to drive the disease within a short period of time, said farmer Abdul Alim of Sariakandi upazila.

Protul Chandra Sarker also said, "DAE officials are inspecting the affected cropland round the clock to give support to the growers.
