Another vessel capsizes with 570 tonnes of fly ash in Meghna

A ship after getting hit by another vessel capsized in the Meghna River on Monday. The broken vessel reported to be carrying 570 tonnes of fly ash at Loggimarar shawl area of Sadar upazila.

No casualties however were reported in the incident.

The Narayanganj-bound ship-MV Asia capsized after being hit by MV Titu at Laggimarar area, said MD Rezaul Karim Bhuiyan, Officer-in-Charge of Chandpur Naval Police Station.

Witnesses said the local fishermen rescued the shipmaster, Nurul Islam, and driver Md Siraj along with seven crew members after the incident in the morning.

The salvage operation of the ship will only start following consultation with Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), reports UNB.
