500 ultra-poor families get new houses

NAOGAON, Jan 15: More than five hundred ultra-poor families of Manda upazila in the district have got new houses as they had no shelter.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khandakar Mushfiqur Rahman handed over keys of the houses among the families recently.

The houses were built under a special project "House for ultra-poor people who have land but no house," implemented by the Prime Minister's Office.

Each of the tin-shed houses included a corridor and a latrine and built with an allocation of Tk. 0.1 million from the government.

Shefali Rani under Ghatkoir village said, "Once I had no shelter. But, now I am very happy getting a new house having concrete floor from the government." "If the project continues, many people like me will be benefited", she added.

UNO Khandakar Mushfiqur Rahman said poor families, specially from marginalised freedom fighters, disabled persons, widows, beggars and elderly persons were selected for the project.
