The mercury is likely to fall further along with intensified chilly weather and cold-wave in the capital and elsewhere in the country from today (Friday), according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The capital and other parts of the country witnessed drizzle, fog and inclement weather from morning to night on Thursday.

The sky, particularly in the city, was covered with clouds along with thick fog, hiding the sun throughout the day.

The city dwellers faced difficulties to accomplish their daily works outside home amid drizzle and subsequent adverse weather. Light rain was also reported in many other parts of the country on Thursday.

The Met Office recorded the lowest temperature of 10.2 degree Celsius in Syedpur, while it was 16.8 degree Celsius in the capital on the day.

A high official of the BMD told the FE that a cold-wave is likely to begin from Friday and might persist until Saturday.

Light to moderate rain or thunder-shower, accompanied by temporary gusty wind, is likely to occur at a few places over Rajshahi, Khulna, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions as well as at one or two places over Rangpur, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.

Moderate to thick fog might take place over the north-western part and river basins of the country; and light to moderate fog may take place elsewhere in the country from midnight to morning on Friday.

Night temperature might fall by one to two degree Celsius over the north-western region of the country, and slightly elsewhere across the country.

Day temperature might fall by two to three degree Celsius over the country, added the Met Office.
