Cost, duration of Kuril-Purbachal Link Road canal project to increase

The total cost and duration of the project to build canals on sides of Kuril-Purbachal link road (From Kuril to Balu River) will increase, according to a Bangladesh Army spokesperson.

Director General of 24 Engineering Construction Brigade Brig Gen Iftekhar Anis revealed this at a press conference on Sunday at the Army Camp of sector 14 in Purbachal.

“Both the project cost and duration will increase with the implementation of three roads proposed in the DAP. Acquisition of land will be done under this project to construct these roads for which a revised development project proposal (RDPP) is underway,” he said.

The press conference was organised to inform on progress of the canal project.

Bangladesh Army has been implementing the project titled 'Excavation and development of 100-foot canals on both sides of the Kuril-Purbachal (From Kuril to Balu River) Link Road project'.

Earlier in a progress review meeting on January 7, major changes were proposed in the design of the project.

The Tk 52.87 billion project, which started in September last, is scheduled to end by August 2018.

The project was last approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) in December 2016.

The meeting was informed that 85 per cent financial progress of the project has been made.

However, physical progress of the project still remains unknown as the authority concerned keeps silent on the issue.
