Bangladesh has reported 15,527 new coronavirus cases, taking the total caseload to 1,731,524.

The death toll rose to 28,273 as 17 more patients died from the disease in the 24 hours to 8:00 am on Wednesday, according to the latest government data, reports bdnews24.com.

The government reported that 49,073 samples were tested across the country, logging a positivity rate of 31.64 per cent.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases and deaths with 9,456 infections and 10 fatalities.

Another 1,052 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,560,006.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 90.09 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.63 per cent.
