Corona positivity rate in Bangladesh dips below 6pc

Covid-19 infection rate dropped below 6.0 per cent while the fatality rate from coronavirus inched up further in Bangladesh on Friday.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported the positivity rate on Covid-19 tests at 5.74 per cent as 785 people tested positive for the coronavirus during the last 24 hours.

The Covid-19 test positivity or infection rates were 6.29 per cent and 6.85 per cent on Thursday and Friday respectively.

However, the coronavirus infection rate rose as high as 15 per cent just a month back, according to the DGHS figure.

On the other hand, 16 more people died from coronavirus in the country during the last 24 hours until 8:0 am on Friday.

The fatality rate from Covid-19 increased to 1.49 per cent on the day from 1.48 per cent on Thursday, said a DGHS press release.

With Friday's count, the total death toll from the virus reached 7,734 since the virus was first detected in the country in March last.

According to the DGHS, a total of 13,681 samples were tested, including antigen-based rapid tests, while 14,068 samples were collected across the country during the 24 hours.

However, a total of 833 people recovered from the Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, according to the DGHS.

The rate of recovery from the disease was recorded at 89.36 per cent in Bangladesh on Friday, it mentioned.

A total of 5,20,690 people have, so far, been infected with coronavirus in Bangladesh and 4,45,279 of them recovered from the deadly disease.

A total of 3.33 million people have so far been tested for Covid in the country since March last, the DGHS figure showed.
