Cops sue 22 in Sylhet over death of accused in police firing

Police filed a case against 22 people for preventing police from performing their duty after death of an accused in police firing during their bid to arrest at Choripara Majdodi village in Kanaighat upazila.

On Thursday last, a team of police went to the village around 8:30pm for arresting warranted accused in a robbery case Habibur Rahman. Habibur’s family members obstructed police from arresting him and locked into a scuffle with police.

Sub-inspector Kawsar of Kanaighat police station filled the case accusing nine named people and 12/13 unnamed people on Friday, said additional superintendent of Police Shamsul Alam Sarkar, reports UNB.

At one stage, police opened fire which left Habibur dead on the spot.

Police said 10 people, including police members, were injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, police in a drive arrested Ashik Uddin, 25, on Friday night in connection with the incident. Police also recovered several sharp weapons from Habibur’s house.
