Students of East West University (EWU) clashed with police as the latter lobbed teargas shells on the former staging demonstrations in front of their campus in Dhaka city over Saturday’s attacks at Jhigatala.

Witnesses said that when a group of students gathered in front of the university around 10:30am, police lobbed teargas shells to disperse them.

 A chase and counter-chase took place between the police and the students, they said.

The clash was continuing till filing of the report at 1:32 pm.

The protesting school and college students, who were managing the traffic at Jigatala intersection and Mirpur in the capital, came under attack on Saturday which left an unspecified number of students injured, UNB reported.

Besides, several hundred students of Dhaka University staged demonstrations on the campus protesting the attack on the students and demanding resignation of Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan at noon.
