Incessant rainfall, triggered by monsoon, swamped many parts of the capital on Monday, causing immense sufferings to commuters.
Most roads, lanes and bylanes in different parts of the capital went under ankle to knee-deep water following the rain that started around 12:30pm.
The worst affected areas include Mirpur, Senpara, Dhanmondi 27, Shewrapara, Kazipara, Rokeya Sarani, Bijoysharani, Malibagh, Kakrail, Khilgaon, Rampura, Merul Badda, Mohakhali, Motijheel, Arambagh, Fakirapul, Nimtoli and Bakshibazar.
Hundreds of commuters faced trouble in reaching their destinations due to waterlogging and lack of transport amid the downpour, reports UNB.
Besides, many of them were seen wading through ankle to knee-deep water on roads and bylanes.
The Met Office recorded 28 millimetres of rainfall in the capital in the last 9 hours starting from 6:00am.
However, it recorded the highest 149 rainfall in Chandpur district from 6:00am to 12:00pm on Monday.
According to a special bulletin of the Met Office, heavy to very heavy rainfall with gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at places over Rangpur, Barishal, Sylhet and Chittagong divisions due to active monsoon during the next 24 hours commencing 12:00pm on Monday.
