BOGURA, Aug 26: Commercial buffalo farming has brought smile on the faces of farmers in the district.
Sources said the rearers had taken short-term training from the district Jubo Unnayan office. Besides, they also took easy-term loan facility from different non-government organisations (NGOs) to rear the buffaloes.
A good number of poor unemployed youths of Nandigram, Gabtoly, Kahaloo, Adamdighi, Shibganj, Shajahanpur and Sadar upazilas have attained self-reliance by rearing buffaloes.
The district livestock office source said, "We provide logistic support to the farmers regarding buffalo farming. The venture is expanding across the region as it is proved more profitable."
Abdul Alim of Sherpur upazila said, "I have been rearing two buffaloes at my farm. I am expecting to make a profit of around Tk 0.2 million from the sale."
District livestock officials said they are monitoring all the buffalo farms across the area so that the farmers can get good profit.
