The ongoing cold wave across the country may last for a day or two across the country sending the temperature to as low as 6.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
According to the met office, a ridge of sub-continental high extends up to West Bengal and adjoining northwestern part of Bangladesh caused the drop in temperature.
It said the cold wave may continue for a day or two.
The lowest temperature in Bangladesh was recorded at southwestern district of Chuadanga at 6.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
In Dhaka, the mercury dropped to 10.5 degrees while in Rangpur 9, Dinajpur 8.9, Srimangal 8.6, Tangail 8.5, Gopalganj 8.4, Mymensingh 8 and Jessore 7.6.
The highest was recorded in Khulna’s Mongla at 28.8 degrees.
Cold-related ailments like pneumonia and diarrhea have been reported in several places. In the northern district of Kurigram, a 1-year-old died of diarrhoea.
The met office says, the cold wave may continue in several places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions on Friday, reports bdnews24.
“Night and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country,” reads the weather bulletin issued Friday morning.
According to its forecast for the month, North and central Bangladesh may experience a medium (6-8 degrees Celsius) or intense (4-6 degrees Celsius) cold wave this month and 2-3 light (8-10 degrees Celsius) or medium cold waves in other parts of the country.
