Cold wave hits Rajshahi, Chuadanga hardest

Temperature in Rajshahi and Chuadanga has fallen to 5.8 degrees Celsius as a cold wave continues to sweep across the country in the first week of 2018.

Khulna, Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions and parts of Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj and Srimangal are experiencing a mild to moderate cold wave that may continue, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

Night temperatures are also expected to fall.

The department’s long-term forecast says January could see a medium (6-8 degrees Celsius) or severe (4-6 degrees Celsius) cold wave and two to three light (8019 Degrees Celsius) or medium cold waves.

The 5.8 degree temperatures in Rajshahi and Chuadanga, the lowest in the country, were recorded in the 24 hours leading up to 9am on Saturday, reports bdnews24.

Dhaka’s lowest was 13 degrees Celsius, while its highest was 22.5 degrees Celsius.

The highest temperature recorded in the 24 hours was in Cox’s Bazar at 27 degrees Celsius.

While the coming 24 hours are expected to be dry across the country, the forecast says medium fog will gather in certain areas between midnight and the morning.
