Classroom shortage in Unahat Singra Government Primary School (USGPS) under Dupchanchia upazila in the district has been hampering smooth teaching for a long time.
The school is earmarked for primary education certificate (PEC) centre. During the final examination, over 600 students come to the school to sit for the PEC exams but common facilities such as washing basins, adequate washrooms, etc are absent here.
During the exam, the students suffer a lot.
More than two hundred students of the school are accommodated in only four rooms whereas six rooms are required to run classes smoothly. The school authorities, being helpless, hung cloth in the middle of a room to divide it to run two classes.
On a visit, this correspondent found the classes being held in a noisy atmosphere as the students were shouting during class time. Both the students and teachers lose their attention due to the noisy environment.
A student, Marium, of the school said they could not listen to their lessons due to noise. She seeks the attention of the authority concerned to make a new building soon to reduce the suffering of the students.
Besides, both the school building and playground are under threat as a big water body adjacent to the school is engulfing the land.
Md Dulal Hossain of Singra village said, “If a protection wall is built, the erosion problem will be solved and the school building and playground will be saved”.
