Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Dhaka next week, said his Bangladeshi counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen.

“Mr Wang is a very good friend of mine and we are happy that he is coming to Dhaka,” Dr Momen told newsmen on Friday.

In response to a query, the minister said that a date was proposed previously by the Chinese side but as Mr Momen was scheduled to be in Cambodia during that time, the date is rescheduled on the request of the Bangladesh ministry.

“I told them how it would be possible that I will be not present during Mr Wang’s visit, so the date is changed,” the minister said.

According to the foreign ministry, it can be either on August 6 or 7.

The foreign minister will be in Cambodia on August 5.

China is mediating between Bangladesh and Myanmar to resolve the Rohingya crisis and it is hinted that a breakthrough can be made regarding the starting of the repatriation of Rohingya refugees during Mr Wang’s visit.
