Chinese co to construct Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway; Deal signed

Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) has signed a contract with a Chinese company to construct the long-awaited Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway.

The project will be completed on government-to-government basis.

Bridge Division Senior Secretary and Executive Director of BBA Khandker Anwarul Islam signed the US$ 1.31 billion contract with Board Chairman of China National Machinery Export and Import Corporation Ruan Guang on behalf of respective sides.

The contract was signed on Wednesday after the ECNEC approved the project on October 24.

The 24 kilometres Dhaka Ashulia Elevated Expressway is to connect Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka with Baipail via Ashulia.

It will reduce road communication between the capital and 30 other districts.

According to several media report, once the DAEE is implemented, the project will be connected with Asian Highway network and all most all national highways to reduce tailback on Abdullahpur-Ashulia-Baipail-Chandra corridor.
