Law Minister Anisul Huq has informed that a circuit bench of the High Court division will be set up in Chattogram city by this year.
The minister gave the information while virtually addressing a programme organised by Chattogram District Bar Association as the chief guest, reports BSS.
"You (lawyers) have a demand of setting up of an HC bench in Chattogram. I already have talked to the chief justice in this regard and the chief justice gave his consent to this end. I hope a circuit bench of the HC division will be set up in the port city before ending this year," he said.
Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association (BSCBA) Secretary Md Ruhul Quddus (Kazal), Law Secretary Md Golam Sarwar, Chattogram District Bar Association (CDBA) President Mohammad Enamul Haque and General Secretary AHM Ziauddin spoke on the occasion, among others.
Anisul said the government is committed to establishing the rule of law in the country.
The nation will never forget the contributions of the lawyers in all the country's democratic movements, the minister added.
