BENAPOLE, Oct 27: The district council is identifying dead trees along the Benapole-Jashore Highway Road for their removal.
The removal started jointly with the forest department and the Zilla Parishad from three days ago.
Chairman of the Zila Parishad Saifuzzaman Pikul said the application submission by the residents beside the highway to the Zilla Parishad is correct. He said the initiative has been taken in the wake of appeal from the locals.
"We are already trying to identify the dead trees with the help of the staff of the Forest Department," he said.
Meanwhile, as days go on, there has been a great panic among the common people about falling trees on the highway. In the meantime, three old trees felt on the road seven days ago.
On the way to Jashore, a century-old tree was found near the Hazer Ali Bazar on the slopes of the road.
Saheb Ali, a local resident, said that in the last three-and-a-half months, two more trees have fallen on this road.
The incident took place last month at Navaran Colony Bazar and Paira Bazar's Purandpur .
He said there are at least one hundred old trees on the road that are likely to collapse at any time.
One Ramjan Ali said that the trees had died in different places on both sides on the road. When these trees fall, big accidents can occur.
He said that many of the trees and branches of trees near the market were dry. Such trees are now a threat to people and vehicle. He demanded that the dead trees be removed quickly.
Meanwhile, residents along the road have already appealed to the chairman of the Jashore Zilla Parishad to remove these dead trees.
In a written petition, they sought the intervention of the chairman of the Zilla Parishad to cut down the trees before a major accident occurrs.
District Forest Department Officer Sarwar Alam said there are 10,000 trees in the forest department of the Benapole-Jashore road.
