CEC confirms deployment of adequate law enforcers in next polls

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said a sufficient number of law enforcers would be deployed during the next parliament election to avert all sorts of violence.

The CEC said this addressing a press conference at the Election Commission (EC) in the city's Agargaon to declare schedules for polls to Gazipur and Khulna city corporations.

He said the elections of the two city corporations will be held on May 15.

According to the election schedules, the deadline for the submission of nomination papers in the both the city corporations is April 12, while the dates for scrutinising are April 5 and 16, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 23.

Dhaka Regional Election Officer Rakibuddin Mandol has been made the returning officer for Gazipur City Corporation election while Khulna Regional Election Officer Md Yunus Ali for Khulna City Corporation election.

Huda said the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and CCTVs will be used in the two polls in a few booths.

The CEC said the term of Sylhet, Rajshahi and Barisal city corporations will expire in October. The elections to these three corporations will be held after Eid-ul Fitr, he added.

He urged the candidates to remove all posters within the next 48 hours. If anyone carries out election campaigns before the fixed time, his or her candidature will be cancelled, he warned, reports BSS.
