Cases filed against 743 illegal institutions in the country: BSTI

There are 743 illegal institutions in the country which are producing substandard products and cases have been filed against them, according to official data.

This information was disclosed at a views exchange meeting on Tuesday between Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) and the Bangladesh Steel Manufacturers Association at the BSTI headquarters in the capital.

Mobile courts of the national standards agency also conducted 1,376 drives and fined Tk 28.75 million against many illegal institutions for producing adulterated products, its data revealed.

Apart from this, BSTI renewed or gave 2,614 licenses to different products during the period while 1,896 samples were tested after collecting them from the open market.

Speaking on the occasion, BSTI Director General Md. Muazzem Hossain said stern actions would be taken against the unscrupulous manufacturers and traders for producing and selling substandard commodities in the market.

He sought help from all quarters especially from traders, businessmen, importers and manufacturers to this end. 

Bangladesh Steel Manufacturers Association Secretary General Muhammad Shahidullah also spoke on the occasion.
