Business leaders have warned against any attempt to defame Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

They came up with the warning on Saturday amid the opposition by Islamic groups to the sculptures of the father of the nation.

A vested quarter wanted to erase the name of Bangabandhu through the fateful incident of 1975 but they failed, said Sheikh Fazle Fahim, president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) said at a human chain in front of the FBCCI’s Iconic Tower in Dhaka’s Motijheel.

Though it is many years since Bangladesh achieved the independence, conspiracy by ulemas representing the 20-party alliance is on, he said.

"We, the people, along with the business community, will not tolerate it," he said.

Representatives of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association,  Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry,  Dhaka, attended the human chain.
