Honey farmers are expecting a bumper production of quality honey, due to favourable weather, in Bogura this year.
The quality honey to be produced in the district could be worth Tk 100 million, according to them.
Honey farmers said they have already started harvesting honey and are now making good profits by selling it at the current price, but it could be better but for syndicates of traders who control the market.
President of Beekeepers (honey farmers) Samity Harun-or-Rashid said they need the government patronage to make the honey cultivation more profitable.
He urged the government to purge the market of syndicates who control the market depriving them of better profits.
During December to February, mustard is cultivated on vast swathes of land in Bogura, and honey farmers, making the best use of it, cultivate honey by placing bee boxes in and around mustard fields.
Such mustard cultivation draws honey farmers from other districts too such as Pabna, Natore, Sirajganj, Khulna, Gazipur, Rangpur, Chapainawabganj, and Nilphamar.
Deputy Director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Md Dulal Hossain said around 50,000 hectares of land have been brought under mustard cultivation in the district this year.
