MAGURA, Mar 18: Large-scale flowering of the trees this season is indicating a bumper mango yield in the district.
A good number of farmers said they expect that mango production will be high this year than that of the previous year.
"We just expect a favourable weather till the harvest", they added.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said over 800 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of mango this season.
There are around 2,500 orchards. Amrapali, Haribhanga, Himsagar and Khirsha are most popular mango varieties in the area, the officials said, adding, growers are eyeing a profit of Tk 150 million this season.
Mukter Hossein of Gopalgram village under Magura Sadar said he is growing mango in a three-bigha orchard.
The farmer said excellent flowering in my trees has raised my hope of getting a good yield.
Trader Harishuddin of Sreekol village under Sreepur upazila said, "I have purchased a mango orchard in my own village at the cost of Tk 0.1 million. If weather and market prices remain favourable, I shall be able to make Tk 50,000 profit."
Magura DAE official Sohrab Hossein said, "We are monitoring the mango orchard in the district regularly and giving the farmers necessary suggestion. Commercial farming of different mango varieties is popular here."
